The Reading Circuit

The Reading Circuit builds connections between teachers, researchers, and families to implement literacy teaching that is based on evidence from neuroscience and studied effective practices. Continual learning about what leads to literacy proficiency informs and guides all activities of the organization.  We may have to re-evaluate and discard prior practices in the light of new evidence from rigorous scientific proof.  Building new knowledge circuits by connecting educators and researchers makes for more efficient pathways to learning for children.  Encouraging the use of authentic, diverse reading material builds a network of engaged students, educators, and parents.

Mission

The Reading Circuit connects educators and researchers by building circuits of knowledge and practice in effective, evidence-based literacy learning.  It does this by:

  • providing courses and trainings to teachers in research and evidence-based literacy teaching methods

  • providing courses, through the micro-credential model, to administrators in early literacy teaching and evidence-based literacy practices

  • sharing with educators the scientific, research and evidence-based knowledge of effective literacy instruction and keeps educators informed of new knowledge and practice

  • promoting the use of high-quality reading materials that present an authentic depiction of a range of cultures and experiences

Vision

All children have an equitable opportunity to learn literacy through effective evidence-based practices built on knowledge from science and research.

  • All children can learn to read through research-based practices targeted to their learning (neurological) profile

  • All educators use the knowledge from the science of reading and studies of effective intervention to teach children to read

  • All children have access to high quality reading material in which they can see themselves represented

  • Parents feel confident that their child’s teacher knows how to teach their child to read
