THINGS TO KNOW
What will The Reading Circuit pay for?
We will pay for 6 hours of training, delivered by the UFLI team (up to $6,000 in value).
What will the School District pay for?
The school district will commit to buying a UFLI manual for each participating educator (approximately $80-$90 per manual - this includes shipping). All other resources are available, for free, on the UFLI website.
UFLI also suggests that each educator have a set of magnetic letters, a magnetic board, white board and marker.
The school district will also need to cover the travel costs of two UFLI educators - travel to MA from Florida and a night’s accommodation. Depending on The Reading Circuit’s fundraising, we may be able to contribute to this cost.
How long is the training?
UFLI can deliver the training in one day (6 hours). However, from their experience, two consecutive 3-hour sessions have proved more effective.
When would the training occur?
UFLI has availability to deliver the training sometime in November or December 2024 or possibly even January 2025. Exact dates would be agreed upon when the partnership is confirmed.
How many educators can take the training?
The training is for up to 100 educators. If your school district has less than 100 early elementary educators, we suggest you partner with a neighboring school district.
For which grade level and for which educators is UFLI suited?
UFLI has been designed for early literacy in the primary grades in a Tier 1 (core instruction) setting. It can be used for intervention with struggling students in any grade.
Are there any additional trainings needed for UFLI?
This training covers background knowledge for educators in direct, systematic, explicit decoding instruction needed to work with the curriculum.
UFLI does offer a follow-up 6-hour training which tackles more of the implementation of the program, but this training is not part of The Reading Circuit’s current offer. If a school district wanted this follow up training (which could be delivered virtually by UFLI) they would need to arrange it themselves.
What are the next steps if our district is interested?
